  6.  One of the more pleasant attractions of Australia is the
  7. awesome magnitude of the magnificent vistas visible from
  8. an automobile on an Australian road.  Some of the roads
  9. stretch unbroken for hundreds of miles through the wild
  10. Australian countryside.  One such, the Eyre Highway across
  11. the Nullabor Plain passes only a half dozen small towns
  12. in nearly 750 miles.  In some areas, in fact, the principal
  13. traffic encountered is kangaroos, not cars; the roos find
  14. the even surface of the roadway well-suited for high-speed
  15. long-distance travel.  The right-of-way rules are simple
  16. enough; you drive on the left and anybody on your right
  17. has right-of-way!  (It is uncertain whether the roos
  18. understand this.)  This and other regulatory simplicities
  19. prompt Australian Automobilists to unusual creativity and
  20. assertiveness in their driving style, which can bemuse and
  21. befuddle the newcomer, for instance, who has observed the
  22. common but inexplicable Single-car Accident In The Middle
  23. Of An Utterly Desolate Road At Least A Hundred Miles From
  24. The Nearest Civilization.  But after all, consider that
  25. you are at least as safe in Sydney as you might be on I-40
  26. between Raleigh and the Research Triangle at 7:30 in the
  27. morning, and furthermore, no one on I-40 ever gets passed
  28. by a speeding west-bound kangaroo...
